So Far
Moving Bessford
"The area doesn't have an organised militia of any size
presence. So we have been hired to perform varied duties
between now and the actual start of the Coalie war against
Tolkeen. Our first mission is a place called Bessford.
Bessford is a medium town guaranteed to be on the front
line of the war. The people have been offered homes
within Tolkeen and they have intelligently chosen to take the
offer. There are a few people who refuse to move but
they will be caught up in the first battles. They can
change thier minds later but unless it is before we have the
rest of the town evacuated they will have to move themselves.
We have been given the mission of security detail for
the move. The trip each way is eight to nine hours at
best given the terrain and the ground transports that will be
used." Max explained as he cleaned his gun for the third time
of the day.
...The first day is a typical mid-fall day. The air has
a definite chill to it but the sun is still warm on everyone's
faces even though it doesn't really touch the air. The
fall colours have wound down to the rusty reds and the final
dead browns. A lot of the dead leaves are still on the
trees and they fall in showers every time the wind comes up.
Max runs the caravan like a smooth seamless machine from a
position to the mid read of the caravan. Al the mage is
driving the huge truck. At the front of the column is
the heavy footed Glitterboy piloted by Archer. Ranging
ahead of him are the Juicer Rad, and the young Cyber-Knight Jon
who is a local and playing the part of guide. Taking up
the rear is R.C. in his Flying Titan.
"Everything is done by procedure. Each day follows the
same routine. Get up, breakfast, check the trucks, move out,
lunch, move out, arrive, unload, and then do your own thing
until it's time to sleep. Go to sleep. Lather,
rinse, and repeat." explained Max early that morning.
He had continued, "Today is Monday October 21st. You
will be paid every seven days starting with the 27th. The
going rate is 800 credits a week. You will each get that
plus most costs for maintenance, including but not limited to
resupply of spent ammunition, and power armour and equipment
repairs. We have our own field mechanic, and there is a
garage that we will have use of in Tolkeen. Each trip
will take the entire day. I do not plan to travel after
dark unless absolutely necessary so expect to be ready to move
out at sunrise just like this morning."
From the Mission Log of Maxwell Sterling...
Monday October 21, 105 P.A.
First trip to Tolkeen with
people and belongings from Bessford. Some building
material from the town will be moved on the final trip.
Thursday October 24, 105 P.A.
Return to Bessford. Rear
guard detected a new light form of the C.S. Samas one hour
prior to the stop for lunch. Pursuit was launched by
R.C. A second of these "grinning demon" Samas was
spotted and engaged by the mechanic (R.C.). The first
G.D. Samas was destroyed by the Glitter Boy (Archer).
The second was captured with the pilot alive. He
will be handed off to the Tolkeen authorities upon our return.
R.C.'s Flying Titan is a mess that is going to have
to go back to the manufacturer for repair. Strange it
has a lifetime warranty even against damage in battle.
Friday October 25, 105 P.A.
Going to Tolkeen. Nothing to note.
Saturday Octover 26, 105 P.A.
Return to Bessford. One quarter of the town has been
destroyed during our absence Friday. Two large "Super"
Samas attacked. The Sheriff took a couple men to go
after the Sams. 17h36 Sheriff returns alone.
Monday October 28, 105 P.A.
Going to Tolkeen. Rainy day but thus far is not
hindering our progress in any way. We have been
ambushed by a group of "Super" Samas. The Glitter Boy
has taken some damage (does not look too bad) and R.C. has
to do a little work on the Smiling Jack Samas (formerly noted
as G.D. Samas). Saw quite the sight today. During
his battle with the Super Samas Archer launched the Glitter
Boy into the air dodging a mini-missile barrage and landing
behind the Super Samas. Those Coalie boys did not know
what hit them. It's no wonder so many people have a
reverence for those shiny pre-rifts machines. They are
quite the marvel. So are the men who pilot them.
Sunday November 7, 105 P.A.
We have found a buyer for the Smiling Jack Samas
schematics that R.C. has compiled from the suit. Nim
himself came to pick up the schematics. I didn't tell
anybody who he was and he had a howl scaring the shit out of
the newbies. I think R.C. just about wet himself.
Wednesday November 10, 105 P.A.
At Bessford. We have been attacked in the middle of
the night by the C.S.'s new skelebots including a large
demonic looking one. Archer took out the demon one.
Several Bessford residents have been murdered by the
machines. Six of the ten trucks in the convoy have
been destroyed. Due to the complete incompetence of R.C.
as a soldier Jon the young Cyber-Knight is dead. We
found R.C. with his ass sticking out of the side of a house
and bits of Jon scattered about his hover cycle. Poor
boy didn't stand a chance running into battle without any
armour even though some of his remains have armour bonded to
them.
Addendum: We did not get all of the Skelebots.
Another small group attacked the barracks after we
returned to sleep. Al is dead. R.C. is pretty
shook up having seen the whole thing, now I feel kind of
sorry for him.
Wednesday November 17, 105 P.A.
Trip to Tolkeen cancelled. Large snowstorm.
Saturday November 20, 105 P.A.
The snowstorm has broken. We will postpone the next
trip until Monday November 22. As such we will try to
take much of the building supplies along with us.
Monday November 29, 105 P.A.
We are done with Bessford and a new assignment will be
handed to us shortly.
